|
20th May 2009 Leading care provider Lifeways Community Care is launching a new nationwide dedicated service to provide specialist supported living services for people with an acquired brain injury living in their own home. Lifeways, one of the UK’s most forward-thinking and innovative providers of services for people with diverse and often complex needs, has developed its new Brain Injury Division after two years of training and development. It answers a demand for a more specialist and personalised service for people with acquired brain injuries through assault, car accidents or other traumas, than has historically been available through generic care providers. Lifeways Brain Injury Services will operate nationally to ensure that for the first time people from right across the UK will have access to teams of Lifeways dedicated and highly trained brain injury professionals operating within their own community. The Lifeways Brain Injury Services will have its own website under the umbrella of the Lifeways website at www.lifeways.co.uk, as well as a new suite of marketing material, case studies, exhibition stands and literature. The new national Lifeways Brain Injury Division will be headed by Jim Weir who has extensive experience as a former chairman of the acquired brain injury special interest group of the European Platform on Rehabilitation. Says Jim: “Over the last two years we have been training and building our support teams throughout the UK to provide the kind of flexible, responsive and specialist support that clients, families, carers and case managers have told us they need. “Our teams are supported by local Brain Injury Specialist Service Managers and dedicated, trained support workers. For too long, people have had to travel great distances to get the specialist support that they need. Jim explains that people living with an Acquired Brain Injury need specialist support to address the complex physical, cognitive, social and behavioural issues that many traditional service providers cannot offer. The Lifeways Brain Injury Specialist Service will support the management of every person’s case. This includes specialist assessment, development of individualised care plans and the offer of a dedicated support team who are specifically trained in working with people with an acquired brain injury. Paul Marriner, Chief Executive commented “We are delighted to launch this new division of the business which will allow us to offer services throughout the UK, bringing much needed, cost effective, support to people with a brain injury living in the community”. This year Lifeways continues to expand its range of services for people with learning disabilities and complex needs, securing a number of new contracts in Kent, Swindon, Gateshead and Burnley over the last couple of months which will enhance the broad range of services it offers.
