My story - Andy Print E-mail
Andy_1Arrive at the Lifeways office in Leyland, Lancashire, and if it’s Andy’s work experience day, within seconds you’ll be asked “Fancy a brew?” Andy and another service user, Mark, come into the office each week and have already proved themselves as valuable members of the team.

Andy suffered a brain injury over ten years ago. After a long period in hospital, he’s making steady progress and determined to get his life back on track.

Once he was out and about again, Andy – with encouragement from his family and support team – jumped at the chance of getting work experience in the Lifeways office. He relishes the opportunity to develop new skills and enjoy more social interaction – including a bit of office banter!

As well as brewing up a great cuppa, Andy has mastered the photocopier and cheerfully tackles a variety of office tasks such as making up application packs, which is an enormous help to everyone in this busy office. In fact, the entire work experience ‘experience’ is beneficial. Helped by his support team, Andy is becoming a lot more focused and organised, from sorting out his diary and timekeeping, to getting everything ready for his day in the office, including what to wear and what he needs to bring along with him, not forgetting the all-important packed lunch.

It isn’t all work though. One of Andy’s current objectives is to get fit and he was delighted to be selected for the Lifeways team in a recent 5-a-side football tournament at Blackburn’s Ewood Park ground. And guess what? We won! The taste of success has been sweet for everyone involved and the Lifeways team is already planning their training schedule for next year’s competition!
