My story - Cathy Print E-mail
Cathy_Glasgow_r1Cathy’s warm and outgoing personality makes an instant impression. All the more impressive when you discover that she has had to face many tragedies in her life, including a traumatic accident which left her paralysed from the neck down.

Now widowed, Cathy needs a high degree of support due to mobility issues. Getting even the most up to date wheelchair on and off buses was proving tricky, so after some research and careful budgeting, Cathy made up her mind to get a Motability car.

As she says: “It’s changed my life because I’m able to get out and about almost every day, weather permitting. The car really has given me my independence back. I just love people watching and enjoy planning day trips in the car.”

With a gleam in her eye, Cathy recounts a recent outing. “It was a nice sunny day, so we decided to go to Largs, a seaside town near my home in Glasgow. There we were, enjoying our lunchtime fish and chips and guess what, a seagull swooped down and snatched the entire box. What cheek! Perhaps I ought to forget about people watching and take up birdwatching instead!”

From the look of her beautifully decorated flat, you quickly realise just how well organised Cathy is and the flair she has for creating a restful ambience. She chose cherry and cream decor to enhance one of her most treasured pieces – a fantastic Italianate fireplace which Cathy brought with her from her previous home.

“My family, my home (which I call my wee palace) and my Lifeways team are the three most important things in my life,” says Cathy, “and the support I’m getting to keep to a routine throughout the day is helping to make me feel safe and secure."
