For many people with autism, the world can be a confusing place. The condition causes developmental problems, making it hard for individuals to interact socially. They may struggle to communicate and lack social imagination, finding it difficult to interpret what is happening around them. Lifeways Community Care provides a range of services to support adults with autism, either by offering Supported Living services in their own home or by providing accommodation in one of our Residential Homes. Wide spectrum of impairment Autism is often referred to as an autistic spectrum disorder, or ASD. There is also a wide spectrum of impairment, which includes Asperger’s Syndrome. Some people are able to live relatively independent everyday lives, while others will require constant specialist support. Specialist training People who are autistic may also have learning disabilities, challenging behaviour and mental health needs, areas where Lifeways has extensive experience and for which staff receive specialist training. We do not see autism as a disability, but as a difference in the way that people think, learn and feel. Our aim is to support every individual and provide a routine which reduces anxiety, builds on success and is stimulating. |
