Many people with learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorders also have sensory and communication impairments.

At Lifeways Community Care, we use a variety of innovative methods to overcome these challenges and help each person find the best way for them to unlock their communication channels.

Inclusive communication environments

If a person has limited verbal communication, we will help them to communicate in a way that it is meaningful to them by building comprehensive communication profiles.

Where appropriate, we are introducing Inclusive Communication Environments, working with speech and language therapists to develop personalised alternative vocabulary, which includes gestures, eye movements, vocalisations, symbols and objects.

Enabling each person to make a choice

We aim to ensure that support workers and carers do not discriminate but give each person greater involvement in making decisions about their daily lives and care.
