At Brighton & Sussex Care we provide mental health services that focus on the whole person. We are dedicated to supporting people with complex needs.
We empower individuals to build upon and develop life skills to increase their understanding of the world around them and equip them with the tools needed to live a more productive and fulfilling life.
From the outset our team assess an individual’s skill levels to identify the level of support someone might need in a particular area. Daily living skills in the home such as cooking, cleaning, and keeping safe are always a good start but we also help individuals build on skills like assertiveness, problem solving, decision-making, interpersonal skills and employability skills.
Life skills can also refer to the skills we use to manage and cope with emotions. Anger, stress, poor self-esteem or things like low self-confidence can all be detrimental to communication and therefore how to deal with other people. We support individuals to learn about emotions, recognise personal triggers and deal with personal stressors to help them manage or control such emotions.
We work with individuals from the outset to identify both short-term and longer term goals. We hold formal weekly team meetings to review and discuss personal progress. Our team are also trained in using the Recovery Star, which is a tool for supporting and measuring change. As an outcomes measurement tool it enables us to measure and summarise both the progress made and also to evaluate the services we deliver.
