Moving on to adult services
If your child is living with complex needs, the move from children’s to adult services can feel like an extremely worrying and uncertain time for everyone involved. But you’re not alone; our teams will be here to offer guidance and support through every step of the journey.

Hopefully you’ll find reassurance in knowing that we’ve helped thousands of people to transition from children’s to adult services over the years.
So not only do we understand what a worrying time it can be - we also understand exactly what we can do to make sure things run smoothly - for you and your family.
Our approach is all about the individual. We pride ourselves on providing flexible, transparent and tailored support that will mean you can spend less time worrying about the period of change, and more time looking forward to what the future might hold.
Planning ahead
Like any period of change - planning and preparation is absolutely key. The transition process should start around the age of 14, meaning you can take your time in researching the different support options available. And we’ll be happy to help you explore the world of opportunities that Lifeways could offer.
We’ve seen countless times how valuable that extra planning time can be when making such a big decision. Especially when you might be considering the potential of supported living for a more independent lifestyle.
Timely communication
Good communication is equally important too. And that’s something we pride ourselves on at Lifeways. There will be lots of different people involved in the transition process, and by ensuring everyone is kept up-to-date with timely and relevant information, we can help to ensure that any disruption to existing routines is kept to an absolute minimum.
Sometimes that means the reassurance of a simple phone call with an update. Other times we’ll arrange joint meetings that include everyone involved in your child’s care. Whatever our approach, we know flexibility is key - everyone’s circumstances are different, and when we need to adapt around your changing needs or preferences, we’ll do it. Always with your best interests at heart.
Moving home
Making the move to supported living with Lifeways doesn’t have to be a sudden or daunting event. In fact we often recommend the exact opposite. By staggering your transition, you can gradually get used to life in your new home, moving at your own pace, and getting used to your new surroundings a few hours or days at a time.
And with Lifeways, it’s not just about your home - it’s about your lifestyle too. So we’ll work hard to help you maintain your routines, whilst continuing with your favourite hobbies and interests. We’ll even act as your guide in exploring the local area, and help you to become an active part of your community too, if you wish.
