Lifeways get recognition from Solent NHS Trust at our Portsmouth supported living service
Three members of Lifeways’ Support Team in our Portsmouth supported living service were recognised by the Solent NHS Trust for going the extra mile supporting people with complex health needs and learning disabilities.
Lifeways took over the supported living service early last year from another team of support professionals, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
When taking over the service, Lifeways partnered with Solent NHS Trust’s Kestrel Centre, the trust’s Learning Disability Healthcare Service, which is integrated with Portsmouth City Council.
As part of the partnership, Lifeways put in place improvements to the service, including team training that focused more on the needs of individuals we support there.
That extra mile
Several months into the partnership, Lisa Staples, a Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) at the Kestrel Centre, the trust’s Learning Disability Healthcare Service, sent each Lifeways team member a handwritten thank-you card.
“Thank you for all your efforts during difficult COVID-restrictive unprecedented times,” one thank-you card read.
“We really appreciate all your support, going that extra mile.”
Each of the three team members received an NHS rainbow badge which honours key workers during the pandemic.
“I invite you to wear your badge with pride,” read the thank-you card.
‘Honoured’
Gina Denyer, the Service Manager, was one of the three team members awarded.
“My team felt very honoured to be recognised for their hard work by the Learning Disability Nurse Lisa Staples,” said Gina.
“They are committed to making a difference and didn’t expect this recognition. However, they are very proud of their achievements.”

As the awards show, since being run by Lifeways, our Portsmouth service has seen big improvements in people’s health and mobility through its committed Support Team.
“We have recently had individuals move in from other providers and have improved people’s lives through choice and independence where this hasn’t been looked at as closely previously,” Gina added.
