Lifeways to start new year with opening of St Thomas House, a supported living service in North Walsham
Lifeways starts 2021 with its opening of St Thomas House, a brand-new supported living service in North Walsham, Norfolk.
When St Thomas House opens on January 4th, 2021, the service will be home for up to 16 adults living with learning disabilities and autism.
Local demand
Due to local demand for bespoke support, St Thomas House was developed in partnership with Norfolk County Council. The service is located in a semi-rural area within North Walsham, close to local amenities with added travel links to the Norfolk Broads, the North Norfolk coast and to the City of Norwich.
“It is really important to us that we build strong links with the local community,” said Will Oborne, the home’s Community Engagement and Development Manager.
“We are also delighted to be creating so many new job opportunities in the local area.”
Stable careers
The opening of St Thomas House creates up to 20 new jobs.
Most of the 20 jobs on offer are Support Worker roles, which offer stable, secure careers for people of all ages and backgrounds.
“We offer full training, support and development opportunities to all of our Support Workers - making this an opportunity which really is open to all,” added Oborne.
“St Thomas House is the only service of its kind in the area,” said Tristan Wilton, St Thomas House’s Manager. “My team and I are looking forward to offering support for a lot of young people with autism, learning disabilities and complex physical needs from Norfolk and surrounding areas to learn and gain the skills and tools to enable people to live a fulfilling and independent life as possible.”
Lifeways also runs two other services nearby. These are The Gables in Wroxham, and Key Hills Park in Norwich. Both services provide residential support for adults living with learning disabilities, autism, acquired brain injuries, or mental health conditions.
