Silver Birch is a spacious five bedroom property set in a quiet residential area very close to the centre of Burton upon Trent, a large town straddling the River Trent in the east of Staffordshire. Silver Birch has been designed to cater for people with learning and physical disabilities who require a short break with specialised support facilities.
The building is warm and welcoming with a very homely feel, it consists of a large open plan fully accessible kitchen/diner/lounge with patio doors to the garden. The kitchen has adaptive surfaces to enable guests to fully partake in the prep and cooking. This area is also covered by a ceiling tracking hoist system. The dining room comfortably accommodates ten and there is a lowered breakfast bar so everyone can be involved in the preparation of meals etc.
The bedrooms all have a light and homely feel to them, assistive technology, televisions, several have ceiling tracking hoist systems and all have adaptive mobility en-suite washrooms. In addition bedroom number five also has a Cosyfit Hi-Lo bed, sensory projector and equipment.
There are two large separate spacious bathrooms with fully adaptive, shower, hi-lo bath and ceiling tracking hoists, as well as a small sensory/quiet room that is fully equipped and has a ceiling tracking hoist system.
The large garden is accessible with seating areas, a large pagoda, raised flower/herb beds and vegetable patch, in the summer the garden plays host to BBQs and parties. The front garden has a large Silver Birch tree and runs the entire length of the property.
Support is provided for users to participate in activities of their choice. Users are encouraged to become part of the local and wider community
A wide range of activities are offered both at Silver Birch and in the local community including: Arts and crafts, games, gardening, cooking, bingo, cycling, fishing, archery, falconry, laser games, Tai Chi and Nordic walking. Conkers also has lots to offer such as, kayaking, laser clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking, pedal go karting, kata canoeing, Bell bottom boats, activity trail challenge, bush craft survival skills and orienteering in the forest.
