Work on our new specialist supported housing development in Smallthorne is now underway.

The Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Jean Bowers, was presented with a commemorative spade at a ground breaking ceremony held on Friday 29th April 2016. She was joined at the event by councillors from Stoke-on-Trent City Council and representatives of the partner organisations involved in the project.

The scheme, known as Pioneer House, will consist of 14 apartments and four bungalows, specially designed for adults in the area with learning and physical disabilities. It will provide a safe environment for tenants to live independently in the community with access to support and assistive technology.

Pioneer House was designed by Lifeways Community Care in partnership with Inclusion Housing CIC, with input from the local authority commissioning team. It is being developed by specialist supported housing developer HB Villages and the building contractor is Pochins.

Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent Jean Bowers said:

“It’s fantastic to see investment into such an important development in Smallthorne. This specialist supported housing scheme will see vulnerable adults in the area provided with the support they need within the community – ensuring they never feel isolated or have to travel tremendous distances to receive the essential support they need. I’m proud to be here to mark the start of construction for this development, and I very much look forward to seeing the tenants move in once it’s completed.”
