Type of property
Whitwood Grange brings together Foulds, Walton and UGH in one community which offers the ideal mixture of independent and shared living space. People benefit from a vibrant network of staff and friends, while having peace and quiet when they need it too.
Foulds has five one-bedroom apartments, each with an ensuite bathroom - some wet room-style and others with a standard shower - a kitchen, a living room, and a dining room.
Walton and UGH both have six ensuite bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs bathroom with a toilet and shower, an entrance porch, a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen. There’s a laundry room that is shared between the two buildings too, as well as a staff office and a medication office onsite.
Walton and UGH also have a garden with a patio for people to enjoy when the weather is good.

Living at this service
Life at Whitwood Grange is suitable for people with learning or neurological disabilities, brain injuries, mental health conditions, drug or alcohol addiction, and autistic spectrum disorders.
We support people between 25 and 70 years of age who live with a range of needs. The support we provide is centred around managing behaviour and routines, rather than personal care. People appreciate routines and peace and quiet here.
People have varied interests including listening to music, walking, watching television, shopping, cooking, swimming, gardening, bingo, volunteering, gaming, socialising and being in the community. There is a karaoke machine onsite, and people enjoy engaging in board games and crafts together.
People choose how they spend their time, with favourites being trips to the coast, Blackpool, Wales, and Skegness. Some people have also been on holiday to Spain. Some of our residents also enjoy attending the Liquorice Festival each year in Castleford.
“At Whitwood Grange, the staff are very good at supporting people in a person centred way, managing their complicated behaviours. They make sure all of the people we support still have an active social life, always giving positive behavior support. This helps reduce challenging behaviours and creates a more meaningful life. The atmosphere is very happy and busy with lots going on.” Manager, Whitwood Grange
