Person we support at Barber Gardens

Before coming to live at Barber Gardens, Kirsty knew exactly what she wanted – a home of her own!

Kirsty used to live in a bungalow with 3 others, who were all non-verbal. As a self-confessed chatterbox, Kristy found this very difficult. No one to talk to and no friends. Kristy looks back on her time there as “isolating and miserable”.

That all changed when Kirsty came to live at Barber Gardens, which provides supported living in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.

Now she has a home that suits her perfectly and has had great fun deciding on colour schemes and furniture. She is surrounded by other people that she can spend time with, communicate with and is beginning to develop some really positive friendships.

Kristy says “I can easily talk and have a laugh with everyone, and the staff are lovely and I can tell them anything. I like that everywhere is accessible and that I can go and sit in the kitchen or in the garden with my friends. I am really enjoying myself here”.

Kristy has set goals with her keyworker of developing her skills in maintaining her new apartment, developing her cooking skills, and organising a trip to Harry Potter Studios!

About Barber Gardens

Barber Gardens is a brand new development of 15 one-bedroom apartments and three one-bedroom bungalows with en-suite wet rooms. The accommodation is bright and spacious, with assistive technology built in and modern rise and fall kitchens with white goods and integrated appliances.

The bungalows are wheelchair accessible throughout, with wide door openings and individual gardens. The ground floor apartments are accessible and there is a shared garden so people can spend time outside when the weather is good, along with communal space where people can come together to take part in activities and socialise.
