Area Manager Robert

Glasgow and Clinicals Area Manager Robert Bain shares the story of his care career and his decision to join Lifeways back in September 2020.

"I have over 25 years of experience working at both senior nursing and management levels across the NHS, local authorities, and the private sector. I was formerly a Visiting Lecturer at the Universities of Greenwich and Leeds for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students. I also have a wealth of experience in commissioning services and improving underperforming services.

On the 1st September 2020, I started working at Lifeways as the Area Manager for Glasgow and Clinicals. I took the role as I was attracted by the challenge to improve service provision and increasing business growth opportunities. I am responsible for operational management for home care services across Greater Glasgow and surrounding local authorities. Due to my clinical background, I also carry operational responsibilities for neurological care centers in Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Newcastle. I directly line manage two recovery leads and six registered managers.

I enjoy the autonomy within my role and the varied workload. My workdays can become extremely busy and two days are never the same. It really is a varied role in many ways and at times, can be dependent on clinical or operational matters as they arise. This is in addition to the development of strategic plans. I speak on a daily basis with my managers and almost on a daily basis with commissioners, the Care Inspectorate, and a whole raft of other professionals. I also like to get out and about to visit services.

Even though I have many responsibilities within work, my children are my main priority out of work and I love going for long countryside walks or to the beach with them and our five-month-old vizsla puppy. If I have any spare time left I like to play golf at Gleneagles, and I’m a passionate Celtic and Leeds United fan!”
