Congratulations to our Health & Safety Team and Specialist Support Team, who have won the Excellence in Risk Management Award at the Business Awards UK!

The award-winning entry showcased outstanding results through our Positive Behaviour Support framework, and its people-first, data-driven approach to incident logging and learning, using the risk reporting tool Radar.

The achievements of these two teams include:

• Discharging 162 referrals with tailored Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans in 2023, significantly enhancing the quality of life for the people we support by enabling safer and more positive support services

• Reducing accidents and incidents resulting from behaviours that challenge by 65%, through a data-driven, person-centred approach

• Eliminating 80% of restrictive physical interventions. Our Restraint Reduction Network audit further demonstrated that 82% of all physical interventions, prescribed following a Training Needs Analysis utilizing Radar data, are non-restrictive.

But we haven’t achieved these milestones alone. In evolving our health and safety practices, we found several resources invaluable. As a Bild Association of Certified Training affiliate organisation, our training complies with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards, which aligns with our commitment to ethical and compassionate care.

Our commitment

These training standards are a rigorous process accredited by UKAS as meeting the ISO 17065:2012 standards for certification. The RRN provides comprehensive guidance on reducing restrictive practices, and their standards and audit tools were instrumental in shaping our approach to minimising physical interventions and ensuring any necessary restrictions are as non-invasive as possible.

Central to everything we do at Lifeways is our commitment to delivering the best quality support for the people we support and the health and well-being of our colleagues.

Through the integration of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans and the strategic use of the Radar system for management and data-driven strategies, we have achieved positive outcomes in reducing incidents of behaviours that challenge, whilst enhancing the quality of life for the people we support.

“We’re delighted to win the Excellence in Risk Management Award,” says Gareth Roberts, Lifeways’ Director of Quality. “Although risk management is absolutely vital in every organisation, avoiding, reducing, and managing risk can often seem like a thankless task.”

‘Delighted’

“These awards are a welcome way to promote best practices in the sector, and ultimately raise standards for ever-better quality support. Congratulations to everyone at Lifeways from our Health & Safety and Specialist Support Teams for the stellar work they do every day.”
